About Shirine

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Mindfulness teacher based in Cork.  I specialise in supporting people who are experiencing a variety of life challenges such as stress, anxiety and depression through CBT psychotherapy and Mindfulness-Based approaches. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT and I am trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).  I am a pre-accredited member of Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy Ireland (CBPI)/ Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). I am also an accredited member of the Mindfulness Teachers Network of Ireland (MTAI).

In particular, I have a special interest in ‘third wave’ CBT therapy which integrates mindfulness, self-compassion and acceptance-based approaches. I find approaches integrating CBT and Mindfulness to be extremely beneficial to my clients. They see significant improvements in their overall wellbeing and resilience to daily life challenges. It helps them to build the confidence and enthusiasm to live life in a way that truly matters to them. These include approaches such a Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.

I am also a social care professional with twenty years experience working extensively with both adults and adolescents with complex mental health needs, social, behavioural and emotional difficulties. I have experience as both a manager and team leader in child protection services and I have comprehensive experience in the assessment risk, need and case management of vulnerable clients. In addition, I currently work with adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD/Asperger Syndrome). I have enjoyed learning how to bring Mindfulness and CBT skills to the unique lived experiences of individuals on the spectrum. In particular, I specialise in supporting people with ASD who have received a ‘late diagnosis’ in adulthood. It can be especially challenging for someone who has not received support in childhood or adolescence, and it can often involve additional mental health difficulties.

Mindfulness meditation is a way of life for me and I have committed fully to this process for over fifteen years. As a result, I have benefited enormously in terms of my own personal wellbeing, acceptance, healing and peace. Meditation is the lens through which I experience the world. It is how I have learned to navigate my own life challenges and it gives me the courage and confidence to live wholeheartedly in the present moment. It is important to me that I am continuously working on my own inner journey through mindfulness and self-compassion, so I can be of benefit to others who are embarking on their own journey.

Over the years, I have participated in many intensive silent retreats both in Ireland and abroad and I have studied with many inspiring teachers who have supported me on my path. I have participated in many Buddhist meditation retreats and study in Northern India and Nepal and this has supported me to significantly deepen in my own personal meditation journey. In particular, I practice a mindfulness-based practice known as loving kindness and I consider the cultivation of self-compassion and friendliness towards myself to be the foundation of inner wellbeing. This resonates in my approach to teaching mindfulness. I am also a fully qualified yoga teacher who has studied intensively with many reputable yoga teachers in India and at home. I am especially interested in mindful yoga/movement, breath and meditation which is related to more traditional Indian Hatha yoga practices.
